About
Hello, my name is Cecilia Boyer, but many know me as CeCe. and I am proud to be a Traveling Animal Advocate and the creator of Paws on Road. My journey in animal rescue and advocacy has spanned over the past ten years. During this time, I have dedicated myself fully to helping animals in need. My efforts have been fueled by a deep love for animals and a belief that every animal deserves a second chance. Thanks to the support of the amazing 501(c)(3) rescue organizations. These organizations have played a crucial role in offering resources, guidance, and a network to help save countless lives. THANK YOU!
Throughout these ten years, I have witnessed both heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. I’ve seen animals arrive in shelters scared and unsure, needing patience and love to trust again. I’ve also experienced the joy of seeing animals find forever homes, sometimes after long periods of waiting. My work has involved collaborating with rescue organizations, pairing animals with suitable families, and educating the public about the importance of spaying and neutering pets to control overpopulation. I have also learned the significance of proper animal care. I have helped with vaccinations, grooming, and medical treatments to ensure animals are healthy before adoption. My experiences have shown me that rescue work is not just about saving lives but also about advocating for compassionate treatment and respect for all animals. I have become a firm believer that every small effort can make a big difference in an animal’s life.
I can honestly say that volunteering in the world of animal rescue has allowed me to meet so many wonderful people. These individuals come from all walks of life, each of them sharing the same passion for helping animals. Many of these people have become close friends and mentors. They give me advice, share best practices, and motivate me during tough times. Some have become like family, always ready to lend a hand or a kind word. I also discovered that volunteering connects you with experts like vets, trainers, and animal behaviorists. Their knowledge has helped me learn new skills and understand more about animal needs. In all, my experiences meeting these kind-hearted people have enriched my life and deepened my love for animals. I’ve seen firsthand how each person’s effort, big or small, can change an animal’s life forever. Their dedication and kindness continue to inspire me to do more and stay committed to this cause. Helping animals is a team effort, and I feel lucky to be part of such a caring community
Volunteering in this field is a continuous learning process. I have gained valuable insights from animal behavior experts and veterinarians I have worked alongside. I know that animals are often more resilient than we think and that kindness and patience can change their lives completely. Over these ten years, I have been inspired by the countless stories of animals that were once in distress but are now happy, loved members of a family. My commitment to the animal welfare cause remains strong. I continue to advocate for stricter animal protection laws and support local rescue groups through volunteering and fundraising. I believe that animals deserve care, respect, and a second chance at life. This work has become a vital part of who I am, and I plan to keep fighting for those who cannot speak for themselves.

The Story
1997
My love for helping animals began when I was very young, sparked by a sad event that shaped my feelings forever. When I was just four years old, my beloved Pekingese dog, Casey, went missing. He was more than just a pet to me; he was my companion, my friend, and a source of comfort during my early childhood. The bond we shared was special, and his sudden disappearance left a deep sadness in my heart. I often think back to that time, wondering what could have happened if I had tried harder to find him. This loss left a mark on me and fueled my desire to protect and care for animals in need.
Even though losing Casey was heartbreaking, another furry friend came into my life, and she brought light and happiness back into my world. In 2006, I welcomed a Yorkie-Poodle named Mia. From the moment she entered my life, Mia’s love and loyalty became a great comfort to me. I remember how I would rush home from school every day, filled with excitement to see her waiting for me at the front door, tail wagging, ready to greet me with joy. As time went on, my family expanded to include two more dogs, each with their own personalities. In 2011, we welcomed a sweet yet bossy Yorkie named Daisy, who made her presence known in our home. In 2012, we brought home Mr. Wright, a shy but loving Chihuahua who quickly stole our hearts. Each of these dogs added their own unique flavor to my life, shaping my childhood into a joyful journey filled with love and lessons about responsibility and compassion.
After I graduated high school in 2015, I took a job at a dog boarding facility located next to the Old Dominion Humane Society, a rescue organization that began its work in 2013. It was here that I met my friend, Chrissy Blake, the founder and owner of the rescue! Meeting her opened my eyes to the world of animal rescue and inspired me to get more involved. I began volunteering and fostering animals in need, experiences that changed my life for the better. In 2018, I had the privilege of fostering a Pitbull named "Patched Eye" Momma, eventually adopting her, which is fondly referred to as “foster failing.” In 2019, I also fostered "Puerto Rico" Ellie and later realized she, too, had captured my heart. The joys and challenges of caring for these animals taught me so much about love, patience, and the importance of giving second chances. In January 2023, my husband and I adopted a Pitbull named "Black Ears" Wilma. Each of these animals has brought immense joy into my life, enriching my experiences in ways I never imagined possible. However, I faced the heart-wrenching pain of losing Mia to cancer in February 2021 and Momma in April 2023. Their losses were deeply emotional moments, but I remain grateful for the joy they brought into our lives and the love we shared until the very end.
My commitment to advocating for homeless animals remains strong. I am dedicated to making a positive impact and raising awareness about the critical need for spaying and neutering pets. These practices play a vital role in tackling pet overpopulation and preventing unnecessary euthanasia. I strongly encourage everyone to consider adopting animals from local rescues, giving these deserving pets a chance to find loving homes where they can thrive.
